I’ve never thought about God this way, but then again, my heart hasn’t been broken like this before either.
God knows what it’s like to have a broken heart. He knows what it’s like to love and have the beloved choose another. In fact, he knows all too often how his people he’s called by name will run after anything and everything but him to seek contentment and peace.
Jesus knows what a broken heart feels like. Literally. The spear that pierced his side broke his heart, but more than that, those who could have turned to him and found life but wouldn’t broke his heart most of all.
God weeps with those who weep tonight. He feels every bit of your pain and he knows the deepest cry of your heart that can’t find words– or even tears. He’s a refuge and a safe haven for all those who feel their hearts have been shattered into unrecognizable pieces and whose parts seemingly will never fit together quite the same ever again.
As I heard recently, broken pieces make the best stained glass windows. But you never know how beautiful of a truth that is until you’ve been broken.
If someone you love didn’t love you back, if someone you wanted to want you the way you wanted them didn’t, know this. God yearns and longs for and desires you. He woos you with words of love and gives you sunrises and sunsets and rainbows and all things beautiful to win your heart. God’s love for you in this moment is more than anyone else could ever love you in a lifetime. Even an eternity.
So rest tonight. Know that your Abba faithfully sings over you in the night and catches each tear that falls. Those tears become diamonds in the crown that you will give back to Jesus one day, because with God nothing is ever wasted or lost or in vain. Ever.
Very good stuff Greg, very well said.
That His love is all that counts eternally, super post!
