There’s an old Willie Nelson song called Pretty Paper which speaks to getting so wrapped up in the commercial aspect of Christmas that we neglect to help those in need. I think we get so caught up in gifts and glitter sometimes that we lose the true meaning of the season.
Christmas is God with us. Christmas is God stepping into our story and becoming one of us. He identified with us in our struggles and pain and yet He did not sin.
He came to do more than make our load a little lighter. He came to be our atoning sacrifice. He came to give us a new and abundant life. He told us to come to Him when we were weary and heavily-burdened and He would give us rest. He promised us peace.
Sometimes, God helps us carry our pain and sadness, but sometimes when we have more than we can bear, He carries us.
