Living in the Answered Prayers of the Past

We do have such short memories, don’t we. Once I have the answer from God, I often forget that I ever prayed for it and live as if I had somehow managed to obtain it all on my own. I imagine most of us are like that. We’re as forgetful as those silly Israelites in the wilderness who complained and whined even after seeing the Red Sea part and manna fall from the sky.

I think we forget because we fail to give thanks. We grumble because we fail to express gratitude for all that we have received from the hand of our Good Lord and Savior. We swagger with an attitude of entitlement because we’ve forgotten that we are deserving of nothing good but have received everything good only because of the grace and mercy of God.

Lord, forgive us for failing to give thanks. Help us to remember that every good gift is from above from the Father of lights in which is no variation or changing. Remind us daily that You have said that You would never leave nor forsake us. Bring to mind Jesus’ words that said that in this world we will have trouble but that You have already overcome the world. Help us see that in You we have everything we need for life and godliness because we have You, and You are enough. Amen.
