Advocate Vs. Adversary

“My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world” (1 John 2:1-2, NLT).

We have an adversary. In fact, the meaning of the Hebrew word for Satan is adversary, or one who accuses. You can’t go through a typical day without being assaulted with accusations about not being enough, not having enough, not doing enough. We get these messages from just about every radio, television, and social media outlet out there.

But we have an advocate, someone who speaks and acts on our behalf. The Bible says that Jesus is that advocate who pleads our case before God the Father. And who would God listen to more than His own Son?

I can rest well tonight knowing that Jesus intercedes for me and pleads on my behalf as my advocate. Whatever gets thrown my way, nothing in all the world can ever change or take away from the truth that I am a child of God forever. That goes for anyone who belongs to Jesus.

We may have a multitude of adversaries, but one this one Advocate trumps them all.
