Just Some Election Night Reminders

Another election night has just about come and gone, so I thought I’d share some tips and reminders for you, regardless of who you voted for:

  1. Be kind. If you won, don’t gloat. If you lost, don’t be a sore loser. There are good and decent people on both sides of the political fence, and because someone has a different ideology doesn’t make them evil.
  2. There will be no more political ads for a while, especially those negative ads. That makes my heart extremely happy.
  3. God calls believers to honor those in positions of authority, whether you personally like them or not. Paul wrote to the early church that they should honor the emperor, who just happened to be Nero. He was much worse and corrupt than any President we’ve had. Trust me on that one.
Note: To honor doesn’t necessarily mean to automatically endorse every action or decision they make. You can resist those things that go against your convictions while remembering that God uses elected officials in His plans and to further His purposes. 4. The world most likely will not end tonight. Your life will go on. The world will continue more or less in the same way tomorrow as it was today. 5. Your and my ultimate hope isn’t in a Mayor or or Governor or Senator or Congressperson or President. It’s not in an ideology or a platform. Our hope lies in a King and a Kingdom, in the Jesus whose name is above every name.
