I’ve been catching up on my Facebook, reading all the doom and gloom posts and predictions saying variations of “now that Obama’s re-elected, America’s done for.” The popular choices seem to be moving to the Bahamas or finding a working time machine that will take you back to pre-2008. It seems there’s no hope.
I say not so fast, my friends.
When I went to bed last night, God was still in control. When I woke up this morning, he still was. While Presidents come and go, God’s reign is eternal and unending.
I just now remembered Proverbs 21:1, which says “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.” A friend later reminded me of Romans 13:1-7, which urges believers to submit to governing authorities, regardless of whether we agree with them or not.
The sun will come up tomorrow just as it did today and just as it has for the last few billion days. The earth will continue to spin on its axis and rotate around the sun.
The problems America is facing as a nation are not political or social or racial, but spiritual. You can’t vote in spiritual transformation or pass laws to change the hearts of men and women. Only the Spirit of God can do that. Only revival and another great awakening can do that.
Maybe it’s time to stop putting our hopes in a political solution that doesn’t exist and maybe start seeking a true outpouring of the Spirit of God over this nation that so desperately needs it. Maybe it’s time for me to start seeking a revival in my own heart, which just as desperately needs it.
So it’s still probably too soon to sell your house and all your possessions and move to the wilderness to live off of squirrels and raman noodles. Don’t stock up the basement with Campbell’s Chicken Noodle soup just yet. Our imminent demise isn’t on us just yet, or as someone once said, “The news of my death is just a tad bit premature.”
It’s fitting that I’m in the middle of a Wednesday night Bible study on the Book of Revelation. It helps me keep things in perspective. No, the fat lady ain’t sung yet. Gabriel hasn’t blown his horn yet. You do not get to sleep in tomorrow from school or from work. Life goes on.
As I’ve said before, I’ve read the last page of the book and I know who ultimately wins. It’s not Romney or Obama. It’s Jesus and it’s all those who have committed their hearts and lives to him. We win.

Amen to that.
