The God Who Is the Same

“Almighty God,
you alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners:

Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promise;

that, among the swift and varied changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God,
now and for ever.
Amen.

I can’t think of a more apt description of the modern world than “the swift and varied changes” we’re seeing all around us. Sometimes it seems like everything is in a state of chaos and turmoil. Place your hope in anything that’s rooted in this world, and it will likely be gone at some point. Put your trust in anyone other than Jesus, and you will most certainly be disappointed.

May we fix our hearts where true joys are found, which is on what is eternal rather than what is earthly. We fix our eyes on the Author and Finisher of our faith because He endured the cross for our sakes.

If we love what the world loves, we will become like the world. But if we love what Jesus loves, we will become more and more like Him and less and less like the world.

Lord, bring our unruly wills and affections into order so that we can be anchors of peace amidst all the craziness around us. May you be our Price of Peace and make us peacemakers who bring Your peace with us wherever we go. Amen.
