Old School Worship

Today on my daily devotional, they went back in the vaults to dust off an old chestnut of a song from 2003 called You Are My King (Amazing Love). I hadn’t heard it in a while, and I forgot how powerful the words to this worship song are even after all these years.

The song is basically a verse and a chorus with a bit of a bridge thrown in. There’s not much to it, but it speaks to an amazing love that sent Jesus to the cross in my place so that I could be forgiven and alive and well.

If your church is planning on a retro worship Sunday, I’d recommend going back to the early 2000s. There were some real bangers (as the young whippersnappers today call them). There was a lot of great theology and passion that went into these songs that makes them hold up well 20 something years later.

“I’m forgiven because You were forsaken
I’m accepted, You were condemned
I’m alive and well, Your Spirit is within me
Because You died and rose again

Amazing love, how can it be
That You, my King, should die for me?
Amazing love, I know it’s true
It’s my joy to honor You
In all I do, to honor You
In all I do, to honor You

You are my King
You are my King
Jesus, You are my King
You are my King” (Billy James Foote).
