If You Don’t Live It, You Don’t Believe it

“Almighty and everlasting God, who in the Paschal mystery established the new covenant of reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ’s Body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen” (The Book of Common Prayer).

“The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians: who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable” (Brennan Manning)

My pastor has said on more than one occasion that if you don’t live it, you don’t believe it. In other words, if you profess to be a Christ-follower, then go out and live like anything but a believer, then your words mean nothing.

I don’t mean those who slip up now and then but those who deliberately choose on a daily basis to live contrary to the way of the Messiah.

May we strive every day to not be merely a professor of faith but a possessor of it, to go out every day and make every effort to live out our confession of Jesus as Lord.
