It’s been Monday all day long.
I know Monday gets a bad rap. But for me today, it deserved it. I don’t know what the reason was, but I could so relate to the kid in this picture.
Anne Lamott, who I love love love, has three prayers that she prays often– help, thanks, and wow.
I needed the first prayer a lot today. As in “Lord, help me to wake up” and “Lord, help me not to let being tired affect my mood and my thoughts.”
Sometimes on Monday, you see that someone hasn’t responded to the last few of your texts and all sorts of intriguing possibilities run through your mind (that is, if you are as over-analytical as I am). You wonder if that person is upset with you, maybe even furious with you to the point that they never want to see you again. You wonder if they’ve already forgotten you.
The prayer for that moment is “Lord, HELP!”
Sometimes, you aren’t so neurotic and you are thankful for being alive and healthy and your prayer is more like “Lord, THANKS!”
Sometimes, you look at your own thought processes and awkwardness and wonder to yourself in your best Chandler Bing voice, “How do you not fall down more often?” You see how God has been holding you up all along and your prayer is “God, WOW!”
A freebie: I heard a wow moment described as one that leaves you With Out Words. All you can say is wow. God has a funny way of causing those wow moments– often.
Be thankful that Monday is still only once a week. It’s still only 24 hours long, and 1/3 of that is spent sleeping. If not, your Monday really won’t go well.
Be thankful that God is just as sovereign and loves you just as much and has the same perfect plans for you on Mondays as He does the other six days in the week.
Amen to that!
